I came from a sewing background with a mother who had a phenomenal talent for giving extraordinary life to any cloth. She designed and made all my clothes as it was impossible to get ready-mades for my 5’11” height in the sixties.
Frustrated by my inability to buy clothes that fitted, I went to TAFE to study Fashion Design, and started my own label called ‘Lanky Lady’ in the mid seventies. I operated a successful business from home for 13 years, running fashion parades twice a year, and designing for busy clients who had little time or inclination to search for fashionable clothes for themselves.
The mainstay of my work was mix and match with classic pieces made with quality fabric and using accessories for accent and effect. I still prefer to keep staple wardrobe pieces simple so they remain timeless. It is the epitome of good fashion sense.
Keep in mind that quality wins out over quantity every time.
Closing my business when cheap imports started flooding the market, I was fortunate enough to gain employment with sckafsfabrics (on Facebook) Indooroopilly, Queensland, and remained there for 25 rewarding years, providing sales assistance and advice to sewers.
I am passionate about spreading knowledge, (therefore confidence) to women in the Australian Sewing Guild, through presentations and workshops, by showing them simple ways to change what they already have in their pattern stash to achieve more variety of designs by their own hand.
Imagine how much money could be saved on patterns and put towards beautiful fabrics?

...The most common comment I have at these functions, is that they couldn't believe how simple it all is...
